29 June HOW SMART ARE YOU?Well - lets test you all...this is fun if you have some spare time - if you're a logical thinker and write this out...you'll get the answer with relative ease. I'll leave this up here without posting the answer for 2 weeks. Think you know the answer? Leave it in a comment to this blog...we'd all love to know how smart YOU are!
Below is a problem written by Albert Einstein. He said that 98% of the people in the world cannot solve the problem.
PROBLEM FACTS:
1. There are 5 separate houses. 2. Each house is painted a different color. 3. The 5 distinct houses were purchased by 5 different people. 4. Each purchaser lives in the house which they bought (the purchaser of the house, who lives in their house, is also known as the owner, and the mortgage amount is not relevant). 5. Each owner, is of a different nationality (citizenship is not relevant). 6. The 5 owners, drink a certain beverage, play a certain sport and keep a certain pet. 7. Each owner has one pet, plays one sport, drinks one type of beverage, owns one house and is of one nationality. 8. No owners have the same pet, play the same sport, drink the same beverage or have the same nationality. 9. No owners have more than one pet, play more than one sport, drink more than one type of beverage, own more than one house or have more than one nationality.
PROBLEM CLUES:
1. The Brit lives in a red house. 2. The Swede keeps dogs as pets. 3. The Dane drinks tea. 4. The green house is on the left of the white house. 5. The owner of the green house drinks coffee. 6. The person who plays football rears birds. 7. The owner of the yellow house plays soccer. 8. The man living in the center house drinks milk. 9. The Norwegian lives in the first house. 10. The man who plays baseball lives next to the one who keeps cats. 11. The man who keeps horses lives next to the man who plays soccer. 12. The owner who plays hockey drinks lemonade. 13. The German plays basketball. 14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house. 15. The man who plays baseball has a neighbor who drinks water. 16. One owner keeps fish.
THE PROBLEM TO SOLVE IS: IDENTIFY WHICH OWNER KEEPS FISH? There is no trick to this - there is an answer, it needs to be solved using logic, deductive reasoning and problem solving skills. Definitely the use of a pen and paper is recommended. Different approaches or methods can be used to solve the problem; but, there is only one answer. Comments (5)
